Cradle to Cradle – because good things stay in the cycle

Healthy Living:
Circular Economy at Henriette Stadthotel

Henriette is more than a charming 4-star boutique hotel in Vienna – we love valuable, sustainable, and forward-thinking ideas. And we think ahead. Circular economy and Cradle to Cradle concepts are the next logical step on our sustainable journey at Henriette Stadthotel – with a long-term perspective. Because what is good should not end, but rather, ideally, become more and better.

Sustainable stays. Urban enjoyment. Henriette Stadthotel.

Henriette's forward thinkers, Georg and Verena Pastuszyn, are not only warm-hearted hosts but also pioneers. Sustainability with a future and purpose – this is their drive. With their healthy living spaces – Cradle to Cradle – they set new standards and show how the hospitality industry of tomorrow can already look today.

„It’s a bit like it used to be at grandma’s, nothing was ever thrown away. But thanks to new technologies, we can now transform old materials into truly innovative building materials and furniture. That's exciting!“

The 1. Cradle to Cradle Hotel in Austria

Henriette is naturally different

At Henriette Stadthotel, we love being pioneers for the good life. That's why we've created the first hotel rooms and seminar rooms in Austria based on circular economy principles – one of only three hotels in the German-speaking world to do so. We focus on healthy materials, circular economy, sustainability without waste production, and resource-efficient construction methods. This combines a healthy indoor climate with maximum comfort and minimal environmental impact.

We also prioritize certified sustainability in other areas – from mindset to energy efficiency. Our philosophy: preserve what’s valuable, keep resources in the cycle, and rethink hospitality.

Quality for generations

Each room tells multiple stories

A glance at the floors, and you can feel their history. Over 200 years old, once laid in Vienna's old buildings, this thick parquet is now the heart of the house. Removed, recycled, and refurbished by Weitzer Parkett. With every step, it tells the story of its past – perhaps even a waltz was danced on it? For the new Circular Living rooms and public areas, the parquet strips were gently renovated and are now ready for a new chapter.

The carpets? Once fishing nets that had no place in the oceans. The washbasin countertops in the bathrooms? Former refrigerators. The walls? Odorless mineral paint. Our vision is to rethink sustainable hospitality and set a good example.

What's inside? We know: a lot of good things.

Certified for impeccable manufacturing and social standards:

  • Historic 200-year-old Viennese parquet – saved, preserved, and carried forward.
  • Compostable partition walls made of straw and wool insulation – for a healthy indoor climate.
  • Warm surfaces made of linoleum – 98% organic and mineral raw materials like linseed oil, wood, limestone, jute, and resin.
  •  "Fishing net" carpets – because waste belongs elsewhere.
  • Washbasin countertops made from old, recycled refrigerators – sustainability at the core.
  •  Mineral wall paints – free from harmful substances, no off-gassing, and healthy for living.
  •  Skin-friendly fabrics – guaranteed free from harmful chemicals and dyes.
  • Natural bedding – free from microplastics, without polyester, for a cozy sleep.
Circular living Spaces & Apartments

Rooms that just offer more

The newly renovated hotel areas follow the Cradle to Cradle approach. The Circular Living rooms and apartments also set new standards for sustainable change. In Vienna, they are a unique feature – because at hotel Henriette, there are a maximum of two rooms of each category. Thoughtfully designed to conserve resources, while offering noticeably more comfort.

The newly designed rooms are the heart of our expanded hotel strategy. With them, we set standards for the entire industry and show what the hospitality of the future can look like.

As the first hotel in Austria, we are currently in the certification process for GreenSign Circular with this circular design concept.

A forward-thinking room concept

As pioneers in Austria, we combine sustainability, health, and modern comfort into a holistic concept. Circular design, innovative dry steam cleaning, and high-quality natural bedding create a healthy living environment with minimal environmental impact.

Do you know that feeling when a room smells like fresh air? When everything feels clean and fresh – almost as if it’s just been aired out? This sense of well-being awaits you at the Henriette Stadthotel – in your Circular Living room just as much as in the newly designed seminar rooms or when enjoying our homemade organic breakfast. We spend 80–90% of our time indoors, so it's nice to enjoy good air.

„Already today, we are setting new standards and showing what the future of hospitality can look like. Non-toxic furnishings ensure that the air is fresh. A true upgrade for your stay in the heart of Vienna.“
